NYC, How Creative You Are!

Spotted on the Morgan L Subway Platform.
Among the paid advertisements lining the walls of the subway system we tend to find "masterpieces" all their own. Apparently the well known "Moustachhhe" guy has been nabbed and slapped with a hefty fine for decorating some of our favorite and not-so favorite celebs who hang among the colored adverts.
I was delighted and absolutely humored as I "LMFAO'ed" as I saw Jerry Stiller's nose constructed into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Face, hilarious.

Not that NYC lacks creativity in anyway at all, but it's always nice to come across these masterpieces.

Please feel free to send me your favorites!

LIGHT UP BKLYN

Last Thursday we attended Light Up BKLYN hosted by Join Bklyn with presenting sponsor Google New York at the Morgan Warehouse in Brooklyn. This was a free event with food and drink provided by local sponsors to celebrate all that is Brooklyn!

When we walked in all we could say was "Wowww..." it was pretty stunning. The lights were amazing with illuminated artwork adorning the walls.

Participating Partners Include::
Sculptural Interventions + Domestic Projections by DADDY
Light Sculptures by  Markus Bradley
Light Painting Photobooth by: Gisel Florez
Cocktails by Brooklyn Gin and Black Grouse Whisky
Beer by Tiger Beer
Curried Black-Eyed Peas by Fatty Crew
Arcadian Pastures Pulled Pork Sliders w/ homemade slaw and pickles + Italian Sesame Cookies by Cafe Ghia  (I have had dinner here before, awesome!)
Grilled Veggie Bites and Sweet Potato Weekend Girls by Skytown Village
Electronic Music/ Human Feel with Audio/Assassn
Presenting Sponsor Google New York

A special thanks on our behalf goes out to Join BKLYN for throwing this amazing event!

Providing the sounds for the entire night was Audio/Assassn. Being a girl who loves techno and house music, I was in heaven. Audio/Assassn killed it and had us moving, even though it seemed we were in a house of not many who enjoy dancing (common people, lets shake it!)

Thanks so much LIGHT UP BKLYN, we had an amazing time!

It's official.. Fall has finally arrived to the great city of New york!

This Wednesday me (Jen) and Alex decided to take advantage of the warm weather and get lost in Central Park!
BFF´s

With the leaves changing colors and piling up on the ground making a pattern of colors, Central Park might just be one of the most beautiful spots in New York this time of year!

We started stolling around, enchanted by the nature, for hours until we arrived at the fountain by the little lake where you can rent rowing boats.. The first thing that caught our sight was a bride in a beautiful gown sitting on the edge of the fountain with a photographer taking pictures

One of a million brides that we saw that day

At the lake people were rowing around in their little boats and the reflexion of the trees on the other side made the water look orange, yellow and red.

When we got hungry we decided to go to the Boat House for some food and drinks! Both Alex and I bought a big bowl of french fries and sat down outside to enjoy the unhealthy delicious goodness, with some wine to wash it all down.

Yummy!

After an hour of food, drinks and girl talk we decided to walk a little more before the sun started to set.
On our way out of the park we found the cutest statue of the charachters from Alice in Wonderland!

After getting a bit lost we finally found our exit and went out of the park to be greeted by the skyscrapers shining in the reflection of the days ending sunset.

HAPPY FALL!

Amazing Finds- Mobile Vintage Shop!

While out and about this past weekend we spotted a mobile vintage shop. The shop is set up in an
old school camper hooked up to a U-Haul truck.

The girl who runs it said, she wanted to do her own thing and this is the way she could afford to do it. She hangs out in her mobile store 7 days a week until around 8pm while playing Pandora on the laptop.

Talk about a steal.. all clothing goes for $10, accessories around $5 (belts, sunglasses, scarves, cuff links, broaches and of course killer costume jewelry.) The store is divided one side women's which offers everything from blouses to a killer pair of leather high-waisted trousers I noticed. The other side is mens offering everything from blazers to trousers to sports jackets (which we learned sometimes look better when turned inside out.)

The pop-up shop is located in Bushwick, Brooklyn right off the Morgan L train stop in front of the infamous Roberta's Restaurant

BOXES by Liz Sanchez

We at d. brand are lovers and supporters of all forms of art and self expression. A good friend of ours Liz Sanchez just chatted with us about a new project she is putting together, simply titled BOXES.

Liz Explains, "BOXES is an avant-garde live show that lifts the lid off society's stereotypes. Far from the traditional play or musical, this project showcases my original music as a vocalist/ singer-songwriter , along with dance and bold visuals. It's an abstract show about E (played by myself), and her struggle to escape the boxes, and her need to master them. Through E's four alter ego's; Song, Mute, Riddle and Word I explore the ways we deal with different boxes and consequences."

d. brand:: "So what made you want to put the show together?"

Liz:: "Well growing up, I was growing into a performer and found myself being expected to fit into
a specific mold.. I don't ever want to be a traditional artist. It's not who I am."

d. brand:: "Put the idea of BOXES into a few sentences."

Liz:: "I needed to create something cohesive, with a bigger theme and songs inspired by movement. I
wanted to envision the choreography, the visuals, the message and the music at the same time.
Ultimately I want my ideas to spark something."

d. brand:: "So how can people get involved in BOXES?"

Liz:: "We are still in the stages of putting together the show, and at the moment we are raising money
to shoot a short film for BOXES to get into theaters. We absolutely encourage anyone who
understands what we are trying to put together as well as anyone who supports the arts to
donate to the cause.. we will take anything, and I mean anything!"

d. brand:: "How can people donate?"

Liz:: " Easy, go to BOXES and donate!"

d. brand:: "We must say we love this idea, best of luck to you and the whole production!"

Liz:: "Thank you so much.. you have to come see the show, it's going to be epic!"

Winter feels like it's pretty much here (considering it has already snowed.) When it gets cold the first thing you think about it staying warm and cozy. One of the most important elements in staying warm and cozy would have to be slippers! We picked a few cute 'n cozy feet warmers to help the cause!

Teen Vogue Stops By

Sarah and Per.
This morning we had the pleasure of chatting with the lovely Sarah Pillai of Teen Vogue who stopped
by the showroom to check out the collection. Sarah mentioned that her boyfriend would love the signature Monza jacket, so Per took the opportunity to try it on for her, when both realized they are representing Sweden (yellow & blue.) Swedish Pride!
Thanks for coming by Sarah, you rock!

Aidan Has A Posse

Last night we had the honor of attending a benefit for Aidan Seeger a 6 year old who has been diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), a rare brain disease. Aidan Has A Posse is an organization established to help raise funds to pay for medical treatment for the youngster.  Last nights event was held at Wooster Street Social Club which is the story line behind TLC's show NY Ink. The venue held an art show which doubled as a bidding ground for amazing artwork donated by artists.

We encourage all who want to help a little guy out and help him battle this disease to go to Aidan's Site and donate funds to help the Seeger family out!

Iggy Pop portrait won by our friend Natasha.
Our thoughts are with the Seeger family and we pray for Aidan to get better!
